When you’re getting married, there’s so much to think about, so much to plan and a lot of questions in your mind around the big day. You might be diving headfirst into the world of bridal preparation and very quickly be feeling a bit overwhelmed…that’s normal!
If you’re thinking ahead to your wedding day, you’re likely visualising yourself in a beautiful gown, looking the best you’ve ever looked - an enhanced version of you. But how do you get from daydreaming to reality?
I want to break down the process and make things easier for you. First, when you choose your bridal hair and makeup artist, you’ll need to have a hair and makeup trial before the big day. You wouldn’t expect a HMUA just to turn up on the day itself, and having a trial ensures you meet and create a relationship with your artist ahead of your wedding. With a trial, you not only ensure your artist creates the look you want, it’ll help you to feel comfortable and to hopefully create a long-lasting relationship!
So, what can you expect from a bridal hair and makeup trial?
Be prepared! One of the best things you can do in the run up to your trial run and wedding is to up your skin care regime. Commit to drinking at least 2 litres of water a day and consider getting in touch with a skin care specialist/beautician to create a tailored routine. Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise! On the day of your trial, arrive wearing no makeup - especially no mascara!
Get to know me A trial run is more than just a practice run for your bridal hair and makeup. It’s important that you feel really comfortable and that you can have a great time whilst creating your perfect wedding look. It’s important to me to have a good laugh with my clients - it’s supposed to be fun! At the trial you’ll spend a couple of hours with me, talking through ideas and beginning to see what you’ll look like on the big day. Bring your inspo You may have seen a wedding hairstyle or look that you absolutely LOVE, and I love that! Bring some pictures along of the look you’re striving for, as well as your wedding colours and overall vibe of the day. This will give me a much better idea of not just the look, but the entire theme of your wedding. You can also show me photos of how you normally wear your own makeup, including a night out. This will help give me a better understanding of the style/amount of makeup you’re used to.
Find your perfect look I always try to please my brides - it’s my number one goal. I use my expertise and knowledge to help you find a style that ties in with your inspo and also what you naturally have. I take into account your face shape and hair type and sometimes I will even suggest something that will work even better for you. The aim is to work together to create something beautiful - and your wedding trial is the perfect time to discuss your options and to try several different looks that will work for you.
Rehearsal for the big day Wedding days tend to run to a tight schedule. If you’re planning an elaborate look, it’s good to know how long it will take from start to finish, so we can factor extra time in and not leave your other half waiting at the altar! If you’re planning a natural look, you can plan to get a few more hours of sleep rather than waking up at the crack of dawn, too! We can also
One final tip !I recommend that you do not wear black clothing or a roll neck style top. It’s best to wear a white cami style top and a white bra underneath your clothes, to mimic the shade of your dress.
I hope you feel more comfortable, knowing what a bridal hair and makeup trial is for and how it works. It’s supposed to be a relaxed, happy and exciting part of the process, so have fun with it!
I would love to hear from you if you’d like to book in for a trial with me. Contact me here or email me at hello@ellienormanmua.co.uk and I’ll come back to you as soon as I can.
