The Essential Bridal Checklist: Things brides often forget but should do on their special day

Updated: Oct 20

Hello beautiful brides-to-be!

Your wedding day is one of the most special days of your life. Amongst all the excitement and planning, it's easy to overlook some important details. As a hair and makeup artist who has had the pleasure of working with many brides, I've seen firsthand the little things that can make a big difference in ensuring your day goes smoothly and stress-free. Here’s a helpful checklist of often-forgotten things that you should definitely remember to do on your special day.

1. Hydrate and Nourish

With all the excitement and nerves, it’s easy to forget to drink enough water and eat properly. Hydration is key for maintaining your energy and keeping your skin glowing. Start your day with a healthy breakfast and keep light, nutritious snacks on hand to nibble on throughout the day.

2. Prep Your Skin and Hair

A flawless makeup application starts with well-prepped skin. Cleanse, tone, and moisturize your face, and don’t forget a good lip balm. For hair, ensure it’s washed and dried according to your stylist's instructions – usually the night before – to achieve the best results for your chosen hairstyle.

3. Wear a Button-Up or Robe

When it’s time for hair and makeup, wear something that you can easily remove without messing up your look. A button-up shirt or a robe is perfect for this. Plus, it makes for some adorable getting-ready photos!

4. Have an Emergency Kit

An emergency kit can be a lifesaver. Include items like safety pins, double-sided tape, a sewing kit, blotting papers, tissues, a mini first aid kit, and any other little essentials you think you might need. It’s better to be over-prepared!

5. Break in Your Shoes

New shoes can be uncomfortable, so make sure to break them in before the big day. Walk around the house in them, and consider wearing them with thick socks to stretch them out a bit. Also, keep a pair of comfortable flats or sandals handy for the reception.

6. Touch-Up Essentials

Even with the best products, your makeup might need a little touch-up after a few hours. Have a small bag with essentials like lipstick, powder, and blotting papers. If you have a makeup artist, ask them to help you assemble this touch-up kit.

7. Delegate Responsibilities

You can’t do everything yourself, and you shouldn’t have to. Delegate tasks to your bridesmaids, family, or wedding planner. This includes everything from ensuring the reception setup is perfect to handling any last-minute issues that arise.

8. Pack an Overnight Bag

If you’re staying somewhere other than your home after the wedding, pack an overnight bag with all the essentials: a change of clothes, toiletries, and any other personal items you’ll need. Make sure it’s ready to go so you can transition seamlessly from your wedding to your night away.

9. Take a Moment to Breathe

Your wedding day will go by in a flash, so take a few moments to yourself to breathe and take it all in. Whether it’s a quiet moment before you walk down the aisle or a few deep breaths during the reception, these moments will help you stay grounded and truly savor the experience.

10. Thank Your Loved Ones

Amid all the festivities, don’t forget to thank those who have helped make your day special. A heartfelt note or a few words of gratitude will mean a lot to your friends, family, and vendors who have supported you.

11. Have Fun and Be Present!

Finally, remember to enjoy yourself! This day is about celebrating your love and the start of a new chapter. Be present in the moment, laugh, dance, and soak up all the joy and love surrounding you.

By keeping these often-forgotten tips in mind, you can ensure your wedding day is as smooth and stress-free as possible. Here’s to a beautiful, unforgettable celebration of love!

With love and beauty,
